Grant Junghans and the No. 2 Shop Quik Racing team joined the USMTS Casey’s Cup Series powered by S&S Fishing & Rental as they competed in eight events over the course ten days during the annual USMTS Southern Speedweek. Action kicked off on Thursday, June 18, at the 81 Speedway located just outside of Wichita, Kan., and wrapped up Saturday, June 27, at the Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla. Here's a recap of Junghans's results during the swing:
Thursday, June 18 - 81 Speedway, Park City, Kan.: Started second and finished second in the first heat race; Started tenth and finished fourth in the 40-lap "A" Main. Earned a contingency award from Tilton Engineering.
Friday, June 19 - Red River Speedway, Wichita Falls, Texas: Started fifth in his heat race and finished first; Started eighth in the 40-lap "A" Main and finished seventh; Earned contingency awards from Edelbrock, KSE Racing Products and Wilwood Disc Brakes.
Saturday, June 20 - Route 66 Motor Speedway, Amarillo, Texas: Started fourth and finished third in his heat race; Started second and won the first of two "B" Mains; Started 13th in the 40-lap "A" Main and finished sixth; Earned a contingency award from Fuel Safe.
Tuesday, June 23 - Heart O’ Texas Speedway, Elm Mott, Texas: Started second and finished third in the third heat race; Started on the pole and won his "B" Main; Started 14th in the 40-lap "A" Main and finished fifth; Earned a contingency award from Beyea Custom Headers.
Wednesday, June 24 - Devil’s Bowl Speedway, Mesquite, Texas: Started second and won the third heat race; Started on the pole and led all but one lap in the 40-lap "A" Main for his first win since 2009; Earned $3,000 plus contingency awards from Deatherage Opticians, Edelbrock, PBM Performance Products and VP Racing Fuels.
Thursday, June 25 - East Texas Speedway, Petty, Texas: Started on the pole and finished third in the second heat race; Started on the pole and won his "B" Main; Started 13th and finished 11th in the 40-lap "A" Main; Earned a contingency award from Wehrs Machine & Racing Products.
Friday, June 26 - Southern Oklahoma Speedway, Ardmore, Okla.: Started on the pole and finished fourth in the third heat race; Started fifth and finished sixth in his "B" Main; Started 23rd and finished eighth in the 40-lap "A" Main; Earned the Hard Charger award for passing 15 cars in the feature and a contingency award from Allstar Performance.
Saturday, June 27 - Lawton Speedway, Lawton, Okla.: Started third and finished third in the third heat race; Started on the pole and won the first "B" Main; Started 13th and finished 21st (DNF) in the 40-lap "A" Main; Earned a contingency award from BSB Manufacturing.
After eight events, Junghans finished up the Double H Bands Southern Region presented by Day Motor Sports with a third-place finish in the final standings, and punched his ticket to compete for the USMTS National Championhip in The Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental which begins Thursday, Aug. 6, at the 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan.
