Fresh off his win at the Armadillo Nationals in Texas, Grant Junghans and the Shop Quick Racing team competed in the 17th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., this past Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 24-26.
On Thursday, Junghans drew the eighth starting spot for a stacked heat race and worked his way to a third-place finish which earned him spot among the 15 qualifiers for the 40-lap main event where he finished in the 21st spot.
On Friday, it was another tough draw and Junghans sat 14th for the start of the fourth heat. Undaunted, he powered to a third-place finish to earn a berth in the redraw for the main event. The unlucky draws continued as he pulled the eighth starting spot out of eight drivers. After fighting an ill-handling racecar for 40 laps, he finished 16th.
On Saturday, he again started 12th in the heat and got caught up in a wreck that left his 12th on the score sheet and mired deep in a “B” Main. Starting 11th, he scratched and clawed his way to the front but wound up one spot short of making the top three and punching his ticket to the big dance. However, in the 25-lap Non-Qualifiers Race, Junghans again showed his muscle as he raced from 10th on the starting grid to finish third for a $1,000 paycheck.
