Grant Junghans and the Shop Quik Racing team battled with the USMTS this weekend at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., and Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo., with a pair of top-10 finishes in both events.
On Friday, early on in the 30-lap main event, Junghans gave Terry Phillips all he could handle. While Phillips ran the high line, Junghans scooted the short way around and edged out Phillips for the lead on the second lap. Phillips regained the lead on the fifth lap, but Junghans came roaring back to regain the top spot with nine laps in the books. In the end, Junghans wound up with a solid sixth-place finish.
Saturday took the team to the big, fast half-mile with an early evening rain shower making for a sticky-fast and rough track throughout the night. After finishing second in his "B" Main, Junghans started 15th in the 30-lap feature and worked his way forward, surviving for a seventh-place finish. He currently sits sixth in the MSD Central Region points battle.
